"Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hath contention? Who hath babbling? Who hath wound without cause? Who hath redness of eyes? They that larry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. Atlast it biteth like a serpant and stingeth like an adder." Proverbs : 23 : 29- 32.

How true a picture the wise man portrayed of lovers of wine and alcoholic beverages!! All the above named woe, sorrow,contention, babbling, wounds. reddness of eyes are increased and many more added to those who tarry at the wine. Many respectable people have become degraded sinners when they become users of strong drinks. Others have shamefully abused their families; some have become thieves and murderers.

Many young wives at the marriage altar thought they were marrying a nice, loving, home supporting, respectable young husband in whose heart and hand she could trust herself. Alas!! Too soon she found out that his hard earned money was being spend "for that which is not bread," but also what she may have acquired was drunk and gambled -- lost in a sinful way, and she and her little ones didn't have bread or clothing -- were driven from their home.

"Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart." Hosea : 4 : 11

They that use strong drink become hard hearted sinners. When drunk they don't feel the wounds inflicted upon them. Niether do they feel the wounds an woe they cause others. Some think they will be careful and not drink excessively like drinkers do. But Alas!! Before they realize it, they have gone too far... The safe way is to be a total abstainer -- not take the first drink of intoxicating liquor.

It is best not to go to the bar. The bar bars the door to heaven.
"Drunkards shall not inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians : 6 : 10
"Be not decieved; God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting." Galatians : 6 : 7,8

A place where strong drink is sold is sometimes called a BAR -- that's true.

A BAR to heaven, a dor to hell;
Whoever named it, named it well.
A BAR to manliness and wealth;
A door to want and broken health.
A BAR to honor, pride and fame;
A door to grief and sin and shame.
A BAR to home and a BAR to prayer;
A door to darkness and despair.
A BAR to honoured, useful life;
A door to brawling, senseless strife,
A BAR to all that's true and brave;
A door to every drunkard's grave.
A BAR to joys that home imparts;
A door to tears and aching hearts.
A BAR to heaven, a door to hell;
Whoever named it, named it well...

"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is decieved thereby is not wise." Proverbs : 20 : 1.

"For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags." Proverbs : 23 : 21.

"But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way... they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgement. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean." Isaiah : 28 : 7,8.

"Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl all ye drinkers of wine." Joel : 1 : 5.

Dear Friend : Are you captured by the drinking habit? Have you thought about death -- sudden death, and where you will spend eternity?? Death is lurking everywhere -- it is right beside you as a shadow!! Come to JESUS with your sins, bad habits and whatever displeases the Lord Jesus. He died on the Cross, shed His Blood as a ransome for the greatest sinner, to bring him back to God.

Repent of your sins -- feel sorry for them, confess them, and forsake them. You can't break away from the bad habit of drinking alone -- ask JESUS to help you. He will, if you come to Him with all your heart. Jesus said "Ye must be born again" John : 3 : 7. He shall forgive you and give you a clean, new heart.

"As many recieved Him, to them gave He power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name." John : 1 : 12.
